Summer Challenges
All of our students have worked hard all year long and I wish everyone a relaxing, memorable and well-deserved summer. Please remember that over the summer, it is important to keep your children's minds engaged and active. We ask that all of our students participate in our summer challenges handed out.

Math Challenge
Get ready to discover Math all around you this summer! Daily practice over the summer in problem solving, computation, and math facts will maintain and strengthen math gains made over the school year. The PS 21 Math Summer Challenge calendar was created to provide your child with a variety of math activities to explore during the vacation. On the calendar you will find creative and fun activities. The goal is for your child to think and work collaboratively with you, while communicating his/her mathematical ideas.
It is recommended that you integrate an average of 15-20 minutes of math activities into your child’s day. Be sure to review basic number facts, play math games, and make connections to everyday life. Encourage your child to practice and review often, such as; while driving in a car, waiting in line, getting ready for bed, or while on vacation, etc…
Please urge your child to complete all of the activities on the calendar. Please sign and return the completed calendar to your child’s new teacher on the first day of school. Each child who successfully completes his/her Math Summer Challenge will receive a yummy treat, an achievement certificate and have their name displayed on our “Summer Stars” bulletin board.
We hope that you will enjoy the activities, extend them, and have fun!
